Student Services & Resources

Gary Library

The Gary Library, on campus, supports research and study for all VCFA students and faculty. The online library catalog puts students in touch with the collection of 45,000 print volumes, 23,000 e-books, and thousands of student theses. The Library website also provides access to online research databases containing more than 22,000 full-text newspapers and journals from publications worldwide. The Gary Library staff provides extensive interlibrary loan, document delivery, and professional reference services to help students locate the resources they need for their academic study.

The T.W. Wood Gallery & Arts Center

The T.W. Wood Gallery & Arts Center was founded in 1897 by Thomas Waterman Wood, a native of Montpelier, and it has served as a cultural focus for the area for many years. The Wood presents a range of exhibitions, lectures, and educational offerings by artists of local and national interest. By presenting a comprehensive range of exhibits by both historical and contemporary artists and educating and enriching both the artistic community and the public, the T.W. Wood Gallery & Arts Center is a centerpiece of both cultural heritage and contemporary artistic activity in the region.

Meals and Housing

Students reside on campus during residencies. This encourages cohesiveness and a sense of community, both of which are central to the learning experience. Mealtimes are in the cafeteria, which is run by the internationally known New England Culinary Institute (NECI). NECI, a school with an excellent reputation, provides three meals a day in our on-campus cafeteria. Well-balanced meals with vegetarian alternative entrees, homemade breads, desserts, and a full salad bar are provided. Mealtimes also provide an opportunity for dialogue among faculty, students, and visitors.

VCFA offers classic New England dormitory housing for overnight accommodations. Most dorm rooms consist of two beds per unit, with desks, lamps and closets. Some single rooms are available. Each floor offers a lounge area and community showers and bathrooms, and each building has a kitchenette. Laundry facilities are available in-house.

Classroom Facilities

Vermont College of Fine Arts provides a variety of classrooms, thirteen in all, ranging in size from small to large. Classrooms offer beautiful views of campus, large spaces, and comfortable seating arrangements. In the warmer months groups sometimes convene outside on our picnic benches or on the beautiful lawns. The campus also boasts three major lecture halls: Noble Lounge, located in Noble Hall; the Chapel, located in College Hall; and Alumni Hall, site of the historic gym.

Computer Lab and Wi-Fi

VCFA offers an on-campus computer lab equipped with both PCs and MACs and printers for the convenience of our students. Wi-Fi is available in the public areas of the dormitory, the Gary Library, and in various spots around the campus.

Points of View

MFA Visual Art Alumnus

"Vermont College has ignited a true sense of devotion in me and has provided the tools, motivation and curiosity to intelligently and confidently engage with the art community as a performer rather than a spectator."
