Accepting Entries for the 2009 Ruth Stone Prize in Poetry
The sixth annual Ruth Stone Prize in Poetry awards one $1,000.00 prize and two honorable mentions, all published in the Spring 2009 Issue of HUNGER MOUNTAIN, The Vermont College Journal of Arts & Letters. Creative Nonfiction Prizewinners to be announced in January
The winners of the second annual HUNGER MOUNTAIN CREATIVE NONFICTION PRIZE will be announced in January, 2009. The deadline for submissions to the third annual Hunger Mountain Creative Nonfiction Prize will be September 10, 2009.
Prize Winners Announced
Hunger Mountain, The Vermont College Journal of Arts & Letters, is pleased to award the fifth annual HOWARD FRANK MOSHER SHORT FICTION PRIZE to Nora Nahid Khan of Olney, Maryland for her story “The Quarry.” The prize is $1,000 and publication is in the Fall, 2008 issue, due for release in November. Honorable mentions, who each received one hundred dollars, have been awarded to Irene Keliher of Houston, Texas for her story “The Knowledge of Cedar” and Pamela Gullard of Menlo Park, California, for her story, “A Man Like My Father.” Winners were chosen by author Katherine Vaz. The next deadline for the Howard Frank Mosher Fiction Prize is May 10, 2009.

Honorable mentions have been awarded to Kathryn Donohue of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for her poem “To a Young Traveler: What Happened” and Elizabeth McLagan of Portland, Oregon, for her poem “This Time, This River.” Winners were selected by Nance VanWinckel.

Cohen of Portland, Oregon, for his work of creative nonfiction titled, “Gambling with the Family.” The prize is one thousand dollars and publication. Honorable mentions have been awarded to Farnoosh Moshiri of Houston, Texas, for her work titled “Walking on Thorns” and Kathleen McGuire of High Shoals, Georgia, for her work titled “Wrecked.” Winners were selected by Sue William Silverman. The Spring 2008 Issue of Hunger Mountain, #12, features work selected by Guest Editors Nancy Eimers, Richard Jackson, Pamela Painter and Christopher Noël, plus the winner of the first annual Hunger Mountain Creative Nonfiction Prize, Andrew D. The Stinehour Broadside Award
The fourth broadside in the Stinehour Broadside Award series features the poem "Breaking News" by Lucia Perillo. The poem was selected by Board of Advisors member Judith Ortiz Cofer from the Fall 2006 Issue of Hunger Mountain. The Stinehour Broadside Award is an annual award honoring a contributor from the previous year’s issues by printing their work on a letterpress broadside. Selections are chosen by a Hunger Mountain Board of Advisors Member and printed by Stinehour Press, an award-winning book press in Lunenburg, Vermont.
