Susan Spaulding

Susan Spaulding (Montpelier, VT) has spent the past 25 years involved in public protection through medical licensure, continuing medical education, accreditation of medical schools in the United States and Canada as well as assessment through examination. Her interest in public protection through licensure began when she was appointed to the Vermont Board of Medical Practice in 1985. She was elected chair of that Board from 1987 to 1993.

In 1988 Susan became the public member of the Federation of State Medical Boards. The FSMB is an umbrella organization for all State Medical Boards. She was elected Treasurer in 1990 and became the first public member President of the FSMB in 1997.

Susan served six years as public member on the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education. The ACCME promotes, develops, and encourages the development of principles, policies, and standards for continuing medical education. She is currently a public member on the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and the National Board of Medical Examiners. The LCME accredits medical education programs where students are geographically located in the United States or Canada. The NBME mission is to protect the health of the public through state of the art assessment of health professionals, which includes evaluation research, as well as, development of assessment instruments.

When Susan is at home in Montpelier, she is very involved with Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice. When she isn’t busy with her Board work you can usually find her with a camera in hand or using PHOTOSHOP on her computer.
