In these challenging economic times, colleges around the country are cutting programs and in some cases even closing. But Vermont College of Fine Arts in Montpelier is just getting started. The newly formed institution is celebrating its first anniversary - and looking ahead with optimism and excitement.

The 33-acre campus and its three low-residency MFA programs, were rescued and re-envisioned by a group of faculty, staff and supporters led by novelist Thomas Greene. He's now the Founding President of Vermont College of Fine Arts. He traveled down the hill to our Montpelier Studios. He spoke with VPR's Jane Lindholm about the future.

Points of View

MFA Writing Alumnus

“My time at Vermont College has been more than gratifying. It has been the most memorable experience of my lifetime and I will always count it as one of those major milestones. My life has literally been changed because of this program and it is difficult to express my gratitude sufficiently. I have made lifelong friends in the program, both among faculty and students, and it was a privilege to have passed this way. Whatever success I might encounter in the future will be directly attributable to what I've learned during my stay there.”
